Bruce Daniel Netzer

Bruce Daniel Netzer passed away on July 12, 2013 with his children and grand children by his side. Born in Detroit in 1939, he was the youngest child of Catherine and Harold Netzer. Bruce was an All-American swimmer in high school and at Michigan State University. He moved to California in 1961 and began a career in the building business.

In 1971 Bruce gave his family one of his greatest gifts when he moved them to Newport Beach. He built many custom homes along the coast that are a lasting legacy to his commitment to his craft.

In 1993 he moved to Kauai to help rebuild after Hurricane Iniki and truly embraced the island lifestyle and the spirit of Aloha. He was a True Gentleman that loved the simple things in life: a walk on the beach; a well designed house; a full moon party at the beach; an ocean swim; the “top shelf”; and the satisfaction that comes from a job well done. He was especially happy organizing and participating in the Saturday beach clean-up at Lydgate Park.

He is survived by his sisters Janet and Donna; his brother Roger; his three children Jim (Ellen), Wendy and Jeff (Theresa); and, his grandchildren Daniel, Brooke, Jared, Cole, Camryn, Mason and James. He met James for the first time the week before his passing at the Netzer Family Reunion.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to slide in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out proclaiming: “WOW, WHAT A RIDE.” Thank you Bruce for showing us how to live life to the fullest!

In lieu of flowers please give your kids and grand kids a hug and tell them you love them, take your family for a walk on the beach or organize a beach clean-up. Please join Bruce’s family in a celebration of his life at the Newport Beach Country Club on July 27th at 2:00 p.m. and a memorial service August 10th on Kauai, at Lydgate Park. Bruce would want everyone to be comfortable so feel free to wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt and a well worn pair of slippers. Aloha!
