JWA director awarded for airport improvements
John Wayne Airport Director Alan Murphy and Orange County Waste and Recycling were honored Wednesday at the Orange County Business Council’s Turning Red Tape into Red Carpet awards, a news release said.
Murphy was recognized for his management of an “on-schedule and on-budget” multiyear effort to improve the airport with the construction of a new terminal, passenger gates and security checkpoints as well as the upgrading of parking structures, the release said. He received the Award for Public Sector Leadership.
Orange County Waste and Recycling won the Award for Public-Private Partnership for a project that extracts gas from the Olinda Alpha Landfill and converts it to electricity. That energy helps provide power to more than 22,000 customers of Anaheim’s city-owned public utility, according to the release.
