Packages stolen from front porches
Newport Beach police Wednesday warned residents about a spate of package thefts from homes’ front porches.
Three times between Nov. 15 and Nov. 21, recently delivered parcels were taken from the front of homes in the 3000 block of Corte Portofino, the 400 block of Vista Roma and the 600 block of Poppy Ave.
Police asked residents to be on the lookout for suspicious activity during the holiday season when many gifts are shipped.
Residents should call police at (949) 644-3717 if they see someone take a package from a doorstep or someone following a delivery truck and checking the porch after the delivery, the department said.
“Even if you don’t see the individual leave with the package in their arms, they may have opened the package and taken the items out,” police said in a statement.
The department suggested residents receiving deliveries should use a shipping option that requires a signature, track packages and be home when they arrive, or ask a trusted neighbor to accept the delivery.
