Christian leader and gay rights advocate to speak
The Rev. Elder Nancy Wilson, a high-profile advocate for gay rights in Christianity, will speak Sunday at Resurrection Beach Metropolitan Community Church in Costa Mesa.
Wilson is the moderator of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches, a denomination that emphasizes support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. She has served on President Obama’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships and is the author of “Our Tribe: Queer Folks, God, Jesus and the Bible.”
“Although Rev. Wilson occasionally visits our denomination’s founding congregation in Los Angeles, her visits to Orange County have been rare, and this is certainly a special event for us as well as the handful of local MCC churches in the greater Orange County area,” Pastor Ty Bradley said in an email.
Wilson’s talk will begin at 6 p.m. at the church, 3303 Harbor Blvd., Costa Mesa.
