LCAD student struck by car in crosswalk
A 22-year-old Laguna College of Art + Design student was struck by a vehicle and critically injured in a crosswalk on Laguna Canyon Road on Thursday night, Laguna Beach police said.
The woman was crossing from the main campus side of the road at 8:46 p.m. when she was hit by an 83-year-old Minnesota woman driving a Honda sedan, said Capt. Jason Kravetz of the Laguna Beach Police Department.
Police did not elaborate on the extent of the pedestrian’s injuries, but said she was transported to the trauma center at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo.
No alcohol or drugs were involved, and police did not arrest or cite anyone, Kravetz said.
It is unknown whether the lights that border the crosswalk were blinking as the woman crossed the street, and police could not confirm whether the woman was alone or with a group of people during the crossing, Kravetz said.
Police are investigating the incident and impounded the car as evidence, to see if the brakes were working, Kravetz added.
