Fundraiser for Penguin Cafe family planned for Saturday

A community fundraiser for the owners of Penguin Cafe is being held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Riddle Field, 600 Hillcrest Drive.

The McMurrays recently found out their son, 11-year-old William, has an inoperable brain tumor and they have no health insurance.

“We’re having it at Riddle Field because we know William likes baseball,” said Kim Ressler, who is organizing the event.

Zpizza is donating 30 boxes of pizza, Pepsi is donating some drinks and several other community members have donated prizes for the raffle, other items for the event as well as their time.

Proceeds from the event are going back to the family to help them with medical costs, Ressler said.

Events planned include a craft table by the Laguna Beach Parents Club, a home-run derby, a possible dunk tank, face painting, a raffle and more.

Cash donations for the family are welcomed. Volunteers and prize donations are needed for the raffle.
