Briefs: Baseball Challenger Division sign-ups on Saturday
Registration for the District 62 Challenger Division will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at Grace Lutheran Church in Huntington Beach.
The Challenger Division includes mentally or physically disabled children with special needs, ages 4 1/2-18 years old (or the completion of high school; age 22) that reside in the cities of Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Westminster and Midway City.
The season begins in late February and runs through early June. Practice and game fields are located at Westminster Park, 14402 Magnolia Street in Westminster.
Grace Lutheran Church is located at 6931 Edinger Avenue in Huntington Beach (corner of Goldenwest and Edinger).
The cost for registration is $70.00. The registration fee includes a basic picture package, team hat, team jersey and trophy.
New players must bring a birth certificate for proof of age and parents/guardians/volunteers must bring a copy of their driver’s license or other government issued ID for the volunteer form.

Camp taking place at Marina
A Youth Strength and Speed Camp is underway at Marina High. The camp opened Jan. 14 and runs through June 6 at the school’s track.
Sessions are from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday until June 6.
The session are open to youth in grades sixth through eighth and are geared to prep athletes to compete on the track, field or court. Sessions will focus on speed development and mobility through strength, power, explosiveness, technique, safety, change of direction and sprinting mechanics, conditioning, injury prevention, leadership and character and work ethic development.
The cost is $5 per session and one-on-one sessions are available.
Youth will be coached by George Pascoe (Marina varsity football head coach), Andrew Bonsall (Marina freshman football head coach), and Turill Engleman (Marina varsity football speed and strength coach).

Surf events coming
The National Scholastic Surfing Assn. will hold several championship events at the Huntington Beach Pier beginning in May.
The West Coast Championships is the first event and is scheduled for May 16-19.
Two national competitions, the National Open and National Explorer Championships, and the National Airshow Championships, are June 26 through July 3.
The next NSSA Southwest Explorer competition is Feb. 9 at South Jetty in Oceanside.
