Man pleads guilty to hit-and-run

A San Juan Capistrano man pleaded guilty Thursday to the hit-and-run death of a young Huntington Beach mother.

Jason Michael Roberts, 32, pleaded guilty to two felony counts of hit-and-run with injury. He is scheduled to be sentenced at 9 a.m. Aug. 3 at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana.

He faces a maximum sentence of four years and eight months in state prison.

The surviving victims and their family members are expected to make victim impact statements at the hearing, according to a release from the Orange County district attorney’s office.

About 1:45 a.m. on July 22, 2011, 24-year-old Oriana Millan and three friends left the Out Of Bounds bar in Huntington Beach after a birthday party. They walked across a marked crosswalk on Brookhurst Street and Atlanta Avenue when Roberts drove his 1992 Toyota Camry through the crosswalk, hitting Millan and another man, who suffered a fractured skull and wrist.

Millan was pronounced dead at the scene. Roberts was arrested soon after in Laguna Beach after his car broke down due to damage from the collision, according to the district attorney’s office.
