A bicyclist was killed Friday when a motorist failed to stop as the two approached the center signal on Pacific Coast Highway between Seapoint Street and Warner Avenue in Huntington Beach, authorities said.

The man, identified as Roger Michael Lippman, 63, of Huntington Beach, was pronounced dead at the scene, Sgt. Jerry Abrahams said.

He was going northbound and was struck at 11:41 a.m. from behind by the driver of the car, who failed to stop and left the scene.

A short while later, the Seal Beach Police Department responded to a call of a solo vehicle crash near Westminster Boulevard and Kitts Highway. The driver was arrested after officers determined that the vehicle matched the description of the one involved in the hit-and-run, Sgt. Jonathan Haught said.

Joel Alexander Murphy, 27, of Mission Viejo was booked at the Huntington Beach Police Department jail on suspicion of felony hit and run, driving under the influence, felony vehicular manslaughter and violating his probation, Haught said.
