Around Town: Sessions on talking will benefit clinic

Psychologist Marion Jacobs will hold a five-session workshop on communicating in close relationships to raise funds for the Laguna Beach Community Clinic.

“I promise to surprise and delight you with insights into the language you’ve been speaking all your life,” Jacobs said in a news release.

The sessions, based on “The Talk Book” by Jacobs’ UCLA colleague Gerald Goodman, will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays from Jan. 27 to Feb. 24 at Jacobs’ home in Laguna Beach.

The cost is $250 per person or $400 per couple, payable by check to the Laguna Beach Community Clinic at the first session. Space is limited to 16 participants.

Applications available for two city committees

The City Council is accepting applications for five two-year terms on the recreation committee and five two-year terms on the Parking, Traffic and Circulation Committee. The terms will run through Feb. 28, 2017.

The recreation committee, which oversees the recreation and park needs of the community, meets the first Monday of the month.

The traffic committee meets the fourth Thursday of the month.

Applications can be obtained from the city clerk’s office at City Hall or online at https://www.lagunabeachcity.net and should be filed by 5 p.m. Jan. 23. For more information, call the city clerk’s office at (949) 497-0705.

Interviews will be conducted at 6 p.m. Feb. 3 by the City Council at the regular meeting in council chambers, 505 Forest Ave. All applicants will be interviewed.
