Letters From The Editor: Pilot moves crossword, weather report
Crossword and Sudoku
The Daily Pilot has moved its crossword and Sudoku puzzles from the classified advertising section of the newspaper to the news pages.
Today’s puzzles are printed alongside editorial content on Page A4, which is typically used for Forum, OC Now and Portfolio. We will continue to run same-day answers on pages separate from the puzzles.
The Daily Pilot has also changed its puzzle provider from United Features Syndicate to Tribune Media Services, so players may notice some differences. The Goren Bridge column has been discontinued.

Weather report
The weather report has also changed. An abbreviated forecast will now be published at the top of Page One rather than at the bottom of Forum or OC Now.
The Pilot will no longer include a detailed five-day forecast, however, the Los Angeles Times, which publishes the Daily Pilot, provides forecasts for the region on the back page of the LATEXTRA section.
In addition, the boating forecast has been discontinued from the Surf & Sun report. A report, which includes surf and wind for Newport Beach, is also carried on the weather page in The Times under the heading, Surf and Sea.
Times’ subscribers in Costa Mesa and Newport Beach receive the Daily Pilot with home delivery; Irvine subscribers get the Pilot on Sundays.

Police Files
The Police Files column will no longer run with a daily map. The Pilot will continue to publish locations and times of police calls in Newport Beach and Costa Mesa.
These changes were made to allow more room for news, opinion and photographic content and to help reduce production costs.
