Letters to the Editor: Article on Harbor coach retirement should have left out quote about whether he’d be asked back

Re: “Brinkley exits Newport Harbor football after 32 years”: Why was it necessary to demean Jeff Brinkley after he successfully devoted 32 years of his life as a public servant to Newport Harbor High School? Retirement is not a simple process for the retiree. It carries a temporary loss of purpose and an ongoing deep reflection on what you have accomplished in your career.

David Carrillo Penaloza’s printed article implies that Brinkley was suddenly not qualified for his position and would not have been rehired. In an article that announces the end of long successful career, this additional, negative content was clearly irrelevant, insensitive and, worst of all, totally unprofessional.

As you are surely aware, the credibility of journalism is under constant attack in today’s society. It’s all of our jobs to protect journalism, mine to write this memo to you, the editor, and yours and Mr. Carrillo to issue an appropriate public apology.

Please return Jason Feddy to the air

We miss Jason Feddy’s banter on his “Morning Scramble” show on KX93.5, Laguna’s local radio station.

What he brings musically, both with his talent and knowledge, are unique and an asset to our local station. We especially enjoyed his quizzes and police blotter songs. We would like to urge the station to please bring him back, even if only on a limited basis. KX93.5 is not the same without him.
