Greer’s OC: Help others get strong

One of our favorite events of the year, Share Our Strength’s “Taste of the Nation: Laguna Beach” returns June 3 at the Montage Laguna Beach.

Attend this incredible gourmet food and wine event featuring eight celebrity chefs, and you will be directly helping to feed hungry children in Orange County. All proceeds from the “Taste of Nation” will benefit the Second Harvest Orange County Food Bank and Father Serra’s Food Pantry at Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano.

The line-up of renowned chefs who will be donating their time and talents to the important cause include Craig Strong at Studio at Montage Laguna Beach, Lee Smith at Montage Laguna Beach, Suzanne Goin at Lucques in Los Angeles, Alan Wong of Alan Wong’s Restaurant in Honolulu, Floyd Cardoz at North End Grill in New York, William Bradley at Addison at the Grand Del Mar, Michael Voltaggio at ink. in Los Angeles, and Jennifer Carroll at Concrete Blonde opening in Los Angeles.

Guests can enjoy tastings, fine wines, and premium spirits, as well as live entertainment and a silent auction.

Taste of Nation offers a chef tasting, from 4 to 7 p.m., for $150, a VIP “Meet the Chefs,” from 4 to 9 p.m., for $250.

Changes at NB bistro

Ten Asian Bistro in Newport Beach looks better than ever.

The recently transformed hip bistro just added a new culinary powerhouse, Executive Chef Wendie Hoffman, who updated the menu to include hot new items like tasty filet wontons, kung pao calamari, el nino roll, honey cashew shrimp, salmon carpaccio, and even chocolate sushi.

Jamming on the beach

On Saturday and Sunday, Doheny Blues Festival will celebrate 15 years of bringing “Blues on the Beach” at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point.

Headliners include Gregg Allman, Steve Miller, Buddy Guy, Los Lonely Boys and many more. Enjoy the best of blues, rock and roots music with more than 20 sets playing on three different stages, as well as microbrews and tasty food.

Weekend rummage sale

Bella Bella Salon in Corona del Mar and iHOPEoc are teaming up for a Spring Rummage Sale on Saturday and Sunday at iHOPEoc’s resource center in San Clemente.

It’s a great time to clean out your closets and garages to provide iHOPEoc’s mission of helping the homeless and the working poor with basic needs and resources.

They are requesting new or gently used furniture, lamps and accessories; collectibles or antiques; sporting goods, books, records, toys and games; apparel for children through adults; electronics (in working order); and glassware, dishes, and cups.

Skateboarding league awards night

From 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, the National Scholastic Skateboarding League (NSSL) celebrates its riders with an awards night and fundraising dinner at Hurley HQ in Costa Mesa.

School skate team riders and coaches can attend for free. Admission for all others costs $25 or a group of five for $100. The event includes dinner, a season recap video, silent auction and guest appearances by pros.
