Breakdown: Costa Mesa (3-6, 1-3 in Orange Coast League) hosts Estancia (2-7, 1-3) in the 53rd edition of the Battle for the Bell game on Friday ... The Eagles lead the series 32-19-1 and have won five in a row over the Mustangs, including last year’s 75-0 triumph. But Costa Mesa, led by first-year coach Jimmy Nolan, could be competitive this year ... Estancia and Costa Mesa enter the game tied for fourth place in the six-team league and both appear more than likely to miss the playoffs in CIF Southern Section Division 13 and 14, respectively, but a Battle for the Bell victory could end the season on a positive note for the winner ... Estancia lost 36-6 to Santa Ana last week, while Costa Mesa was a 35-14 winner over Saddleback ... Burton threw five touchdowns as the Mustangs ended a 13-game league losing streak and a five-game losing streak overall.
