Pacifica Christian Orange County’s Allyson Scharrer, Rebecca Penjoyan make All-Academy League first team
Pacifica Christian Orange County High’s Allyson Scharrer and Rebecca Penjoyan earned first-team All-Academy League honors for helping the girls’ volleyball team to a second-place finish in the league.
Scharrer, a senior setter, led the Tritons (16-11, 5-3 in league) with 510 assists and 79 service aces. She also had 100 digs and 35 kills.
Penjoyan, a freshman middle blocker, had a team-high 197 kills and 18 total blocks.
Top-seeded Garden Grove outlasted host Pacifica Christian 25-23, 25-22, 22-25, 21-25, 15-13 in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 7 playoffs.
Pacifica Christian junior libero Anna Eddy and junior outside hitter Hailey MacKay were named to the second team.
Eddy had 362 digs and 344 service receptions, both team-leading totals.
MacKay tallied 146 kills, 134 service receptions, 76 digs and 43 aces.
Junior middle blocker Casie Carlson garnered honorable mention after finishing second on the team with 175 kills and 44 aces.
Claremont Webb sophomore setter Savanna Cespedes was named the Academy League Player of the Year. Senior libero Michelle Munguia received the Libero of the Year honor for the league champion Gauls (27-8, 8-0).
