High School Roundup: Laguna Beach boys’ basketball improves to 3-0 in Wave League with win over Huntington

Nolan Naess had 22 points as the Laguna Beach High boys’ basketball team beat Huntington Beach 47-40 in a Wave League game at home Friday night.

Lucas Kravitz and Willie Rounaghi both scored eight points for the Breakers (17-7, 3-0 in league).

Richard Imagawa led Huntington Beach (5-19, 0-3) with 13 points.

Los Alamitos 65, Corona del Mar 51: Jack Stone led the Sea Kings with 19 points in Friday’s Surf League game on the road.

Matt DeCrona had 11 points for CdM (15-9, 0-3 in league).

Fountain Valley 80, Marina 60: The Barons improved to 13-7 overall and 2-1 in the Wave League after Friday’s road win.

Marina is 10-15 and 1-2.

Estancia 54, Saddleback 36: The visiting Eagles won their 13th straight game Friday in the Orange Coast League matchup.

First-place Estancia improved to 21-3 overall and 6-0 in league play. Saddleback, Calvary Chapel, Santa Ana and Costa Mesa are all tied for second place at 3-3 in the league.

The Eagles can clinch at least a share of the league title with a win Wednesday at home against Santa Ana.

Calvary Chapel 56, Costa Mesa 54: The Mustangs fell to 8-16 overall and 3-3 in the Orange Coast League after Friday’s home loss.

Westminster 57, Ocean View 48: The Seahawks dropped their second straight Golden West League game Friday on the road.

Ocean View is 14-10 overall and 4-2 in the league.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Fountain Valley 2, Marina 1: Devon Verde scored both goals for the Barons on Friday in a Wave League match on the road.

Fountain Valley improved to 6-6-3 overall and 2-0-1 through the first half of league play.

Marina, which has lost four of its last five, dropped to 7-8-3 and 1-2.

Huntington Beach 3, Laguna Beach 2: Justin Fujimori, Jared Rhone and Liam Wilder each had a goal for the visiting Oilers on Friday in a Wave League match.

Huntington Beach moved to 7-6-4 overall and 2-0-1 in the league, joining Fountain Valley in a tie for first place. The teams meet to begin the second half of league play on Wednesday at Fountain Valley at 3 p.m.

Laguna Beach fell to 5-9-2 and 0-3.

Edison 2, Newport Harbor 1 (OT): Armand Pigeon scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in extra time for the host Chargers in Friday’s Surf League match.

Trenton Bellinger also had a goal for Edison (12-5-1, 1-2 in league).

Newport Harbor fell to 9-4-1 overall and 1-2 in league play.

Corona del Mar 1, Los Alamitos 0: Zach Cohen scored for the visiting Sea Kings on Friday in a Surf League match.

CdM (10-4, 3-0 in league) has won five of its last six matches.

Los Alamitos dropped to 6-5-5 overall and 1-2 in the league.

Costa Mesa 6, Calvary Chapel 0: Anthony Avila, Marco Castrejon, Ethan Ervey, Izaak Torres, DJ Olmedo and Bryan Hernandez all scored for the host Mustangs on senior night on Friday in an Orange Coast League match.

Walter Olmedo kept the clean sheet for Costa Mesa (4-8-6, 2-1-3 in league).

Saddleback 1, Estancia 0: Cesar Pedroza made five saves for the visiting Eagles on Friday in an Orange Coast League match.

Estancia dropped to 3-11-5 overall and 2-2-2 in the league.

Ocean View 2, Westminster 2: Anthony Ruiz and Pablo Martinez scored the goals for the visiting Seahawks on Friday in a Golden West League match.

Ocean View (5-8-7, 2-0-4 in league) remains unbeaten in league, but the Seahawks have finished with a tie in four consecutive matches.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Sage Hill 53, Avalon 31: Isabel Gomez had 22 points, seven rebounds and six assists to lead the Lightning in Friday’s San Joaquin League game on the road.

Emily Elliott had 12 points and 14 rebounds for Sage Hill (15-6, 3-2 in league). Zoe Mazakas finished with 11 points and 15 rebounds.
