Sage Hill trio earns All-CIF eight-man football honors
Sage Hill School juniors Ben Romeo, Alvaro Corona and Christian Moyano have earned All-CIF Southern Section Division 1 eight-man football accolades after helping the Lightning reach the Division 1 semifinals.
The trio also led Sage Hill to a second straight undefeated Express League championship. The Lightning lost 46-21 at Ojai Thacher in the semifinals.
Romeo, a receiver and cornerback, had 50 catches for 750 yards and 10 touchdowns. Romeo also added four rushing touchdowns, and seven interceptions on defense.
Finn McClintock throws for three touchdowns and runs for two scores, leading the Lightning to a 40-28 victory and a CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoff berth.
Corona, who played defensive end, tight end and kicker, had 25 catches for 400 yards and four touchdowns, adding 88 tackles and 9.5 sacks as a defensive end. He also hit the game-winning field goal in a 45-42 win over Canoga Park Faith Baptist in the quarterfinals.
Moyano, a right guard and three-year starter on the offensive line, led the team in pancake blocks, coach BJ Crabtree said.
Senior Brett Webster of Division 1 champion Los Angeles Windward earned All-CIF MVP honors, while Windward senior Marcus Joseph was the Defensive MVP and Windward coach Hasan Muhammad was the Coach of the Year. Senior Jackson Hollins of Thacher was the Offensive MVP.
The Sea Kings and Vikings, who each won CIF titles, were well represented among the All-CIF Southern Section honorees for the 2019 football season.
