College Roundup: UC Irvine men’s basketball beats UC Davis for fourth straight win

Brad Greene had 17 points and 12 rebounds, and the UC Irvine men’s basketball team beat UC Davis 83-72 in a Big West Conference game Thursday at Bren Events Center.

Collin Welp added 13 points for first-place UC Irvine (15-9, 7-1 in conference), which won its fourth straight game. Tommy Rutherford scored 12 points and Evan Leonard had 10 points and six assists.

The Anteaters play a conference game at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPNU.

Arizona Christian 95, Vanguard 79: Isaiah Gentry had a team-high 15 points with nine rebounds for the visiting Lions on Thursday in a Golden State Athletic Conference game.

Kieran Hayward and Masie Mohammadi each had 14 points, and Jonah Tolmaire added 13 points for Vanguard (11-12, 4-7 in conference). Nico Dasca had 11 points.

BASEBALL

Golden West 6, Reedley 1: Seth Nelson was three for five with two doubles, two runs scored and a run batted in for the Rustlers in Thursday’s nonconference road game.

Luke Chung added three hits and an RBI for Golden West (3-4), and Vinny Tosti had two doubles. Caleb Turner allowed no earned runs in five innings, improving to 2-1.

The Rustlers play at College of the Sequoias on Friday at 1 p.m.

Vanguard 8, Baker 6: The host Lions rallied from a 4-0 deficit on Thursday in a nonconference game.

Landon Riker had two run-scoring hits for Vanguard (5-1). Grady Conner also had a two-run double.

Cuesta 16, Orange Coast 3: Shortstop David Morgan hit a three-run home run for the visiting Pirates on Thursday in a nonconference game.

Catcher Oscar Favela had two hits, including a double, for Orange Coast (1-4). Third baseman Cary Arbolida also had a double.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

UC Irvine 3, Concordia 1: Joel Schneidmiller had 17 kills for the Anteaters in a 24-26, 25-18, 25-21, 25-20 win at the Outrigger Tournament in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Thursday.

Scott Stadick had 11 kills and a match-high 10 blocks for No. 4 UC Irvine (6-3), which had a season-high 16 blocks as a team.

Golden West 3, Los Angeles Pierce 0: The Rustlers improved to 2-2 after Thursday’s nonconference 25-11, 25-20, 25-20 home sweep.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Vanguard 72, Arizona Christian 50: Vanessa Murphy had 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lions on Thursday in a Golden State Athletic Conference game on the road.

Michaella Elad added 19 points, six rebounds and three steals for No. 6-ranked Vanguard (7-3, 9-2 in conference). Victoria Chea also had four points, 10 assists and four rebounds.
