Edison, Corona del Mar, Fountain Valley competing in CIF Division 1 boys’ soccer playoffs

The Edison, Corona del Mar and Fountain Valley high school boys’ soccer teams will compete in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs beginning Wednesday, as three of seven local teams to qualify for the postseason.

Girls’ soccer brackets also were released Saturday, and 11 local teams advanced to CIF. Girls’ soccer has first-round matches on Thursday.

All opening-round matches will be at either 3 p.m. or 5 p.m.

Edison boys’ soccer (15-5-1), the Surf League champion, begins the Division 1 playoffs with a home match against Mission Viejo (8-5-3) on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Surf League No. 2 seed Corona del Mar (11-7) will play at Servite (10-5-4) in the first round Wednesday. Wave League champion Fountain Valley (9-6-3) hosts Mater Dei (15-4-1).

In Division 2, Newport Harbor and Estancia could meet in the second round if each wins first-round matches Wednesday. The Sailors (10-6-1), an at-large team from the Surf League, play at Santiago (16-3-2) in the first round. The Eagles (5-11-7), the No. 3 team from the Orange Coast League, play at La Habra (13-6-4) in the first round.

Huntington Beach (9-7-5) is the other local team in the Division 2 draw, and the Wave League runner-up Oilers host Fullerton (13-8-1) in the first round Wednesday.

In Division 3, Los Amigos (9-3-5) plays at North Torrance (18-3) in the first round Wednesday. The Lobos finished third in the Garden Grove League.

On the girls’ side, four local teams open the Division 1 playoffs on Thursday. Edison is the only one with a home match, as the Surf League runner-up Chargers (11-5-4) host Trabuco Hills (5-6-6).

Huntington Beach (10-9-5), a Surf League at-large team, plays at undefeated Division 1 top seed Upland (22-0) at 6 p.m. Corona del Mar (12-5-2), which also made it as a Surf League at-large team, is at Mater Dei (16-3-1) at 3:15 p.m. Newport Harbor (16-5-4), a Wave League at-large team, plays at Troy (15-1).

Marina girls’ soccer (8-8-3), the Wave League champion, hosts Simi Valley Royal (12-6-1) in the first round in Division 2. Wave League runner-up Laguna Beach (6-5-6) hosts Redlands Citrus Valley (9-9-3) in the Division 3 first round, also on Thursday.

Three local teams will compete in Division 4. Orange Coast League champion Costa Mesa (12-6-2) hosts Godinez (12-7-1), while Golden West League runner-up Ocean View (12-11-1) hosts Silverado. Estancia (9-6-3), the Orange Coast League runner-up, plays at Lakewood St. Joseph (9-7-1).

In Division 5, Sage Hill girls’ soccer (9-8-1), the San Joaquin League runner-up, plays at Rialto (15-6-3) in the first round. The San Joaquin League’s third-place team, Pacifica Christian Orange County (11-5-1), hosts Inglewood St. Mary’s Academy in a Division 6 wild-card match Tuesday. The winner plays at Moreno Valley Rancho Verde in the first round Thursday.

Second-round matches are scheduled for Friday in boys’ soccer, and Saturday in girls’ soccer.
