College Roundup: UC Irvine women’s basketball wins at Long Beach State

Jayde Cadee had 24 points on eight three-pointers, tying the UC Irvine single-game record, and led the Anteaters to a 70-61 win over Long Beach State on Thursday in a Big West Conference women’s basketball game at the Walter Pyramid.

Cadee, who made eight of 14 attempts from beyond the arc, added four rebounds and a steal. Haleigh Talbert had 16 points and seven rebounds for the Anteaters (9-17, 5-7 in conference).

Lauren Saiki provided six points, 11 assists and five steals. Tahlia Garza chipped in with 10 points.

Vanguard 89, Menlo 63: Michaella Elad had 19 points and eight rebounds to lead the visiting Lions on Thursday in a Golden State Athletic Conference game.

Vanessa Murphy had 16 points and nine rebounds for Vanguard (20-4, 12-3 in conference). Victoria Chea added 10 points and 10 assists. Estefania Giner scored 16 points, and Tristen Rollon had 11 points.

BASEBALL

Orange Coast 23, College of the Desert 1: Logan Jackson had four runs batted in for the host Pirates on Thursday in a nonconference game.

David Morgan and Cary Abolida each had a home run for Orange Coast (6-6). Nolan Funke had a pair of triples, and Conner MacNeil tripled.

Will Mangurian, Drew Baltruweit, Garret Barto, Ryan O’Halloran and Jackson each had a double.

MJ Gabaldon (2-0) struck out five over five scoreless innings. He allowed four hits and walked three.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Menlo 88, Vanguard 76: Masie Mohammadi had a team-high 23 points for the Lions on Thursday in a Golden State Athletic Conference game on the road.

Phillip Willis added 14 points and five rebounds for Vanguard (13-14, 6-9 in conference).

MEN’S GOLF

UC Irvine is tied for fourth place in a 21-team field after the opening round of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate on Thursday at Wailua Golf Course in Hawaii.

Senior Jonathan Kang is among six players tied for the individual lead at three-under-par 69. He helped the Anteaters enter the clubhouse with a first-day total of 289.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Vanguard 3, Park University 0: Kyle Anema had a match-high 19 kills for the host Lions, who won 25-17, 25-16, 25-20 in Thursday’s nonconference match.

Bryce Thompson distributed 36 assists for Vanguard (8-3).

WOMEN’S TENNIS

UC Irvine 4, UC San Diego 0: The host Anteaters improved to 4-4 overall following Thursday’s nonconference match.

Stephanie Nguyen and Alyssia Fossorier notched a 6-2 win over Chloe Wight and Anjni Agrawal at No. 2 doubles, and Jenna Schlatter and Jessica Tsukiji earned a 6-1 win over Anu Bhadada and Julianna Sabile at No. 3 doubles to clinch the doubles point.

Arianna Tilbury, Tsukiji and Schlatter each delivered straight-sets victories in singles to clinch the match.

Orange Coast 7, Cypress 2: The host Pirates (5-3) extended their winning streak to three matches in Thursday’s Orange Empire Conference opener.
