High School Roundup: Corona del Mar High girls’ soccer edges Costa Mesa

Payton Vovan, Isabella Vigeland and Erin Galvin all scored goals for the Corona del Mar High School girls’ soccer team, which beat Costa Mesa 3-2 in a nonleague match Tuesday at CdM.

Avery Doherty and Erin Jones each tallied assists for the Sea Kings (3-2-2). Goalkeeper Sydney Walls made three saves.

Itzel Ramirez and Jevaughn Burns both scored for Costa Mesa (1-3).

Newport Harbor 2, San Clemente 1: Antonella Russo scored her second goal in three matches to help lift the Sailors in Tuesday’s nonleague home match.

Kenna Robar also scored for the Sailors (2-0-1), while Brielle Benedict and Alyssa Sims had assists.

SOFTBALL

Newport Harbor 20, Costa Mesa 0 (five innings): The visiting Sailors scored 10 runs in the first inning in Tuesday’s nonleague game.

Alexis Amaro went four for four with four runs batted in and four runs scored. Ava Nolan had two hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs in the contest for Newport Harbor (2-0).

The Sailors also received home runs from Maddy Bibona and Eliana Gottlieb. McKayla Cotton, Gabriella DiFrancesco and Nolan combined to pitch the shutout.

Newport Harbor has a home game against Long Beach Millikan on Wednesday.

Costa Mesa (0-1) plays at Corona del Mar on Friday at 3:15 p.m.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Ocean View 14, Katella 4: Seniors Nick Chumacero and Parker Walpole both swept in singles for the Seahawks in Tuesday’s Golden West League match.

The freshman doubles team of Andrew Oldag and Lucas Salama also swept for Ocean View (3-3, 2-0 in league), as did the senior duo of Michael Dechene and Josh Kim.

Ocean View hosts Segerstrom on Thursday.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Laguna Beach 11, Newport Harbor 7: Kaitlyn Smith, Jessica MacCallum and Sarah MacCallum all swept in doubles for the Breakers in Tuesday’s Sunset Conference crossover match.

Laguna Beach improved to 4-1 overall.
