The Ocean View High boys’ water polo team has advanced to its first CIF Southern Section title match.

The Seahawks closed strong to upset No. 2-seeded Menifee Heritage 11-9 on the road Wednesday in a Division 6 semifinal match.

Sophomore Joseph Stanbridge scored seven goals for Ocean View (13-14), which will play top-seeded Crean Lutheran in the Division 6 title match Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Woollett Aquatics Center in Irvine.

Sophomore Charlie Feltz and senior Kyle Ayers each added two goals in the semifinal win for the Seahawks, who led 7-4 at halftime before host Heritage rallied to tie the score, and senior goalkeeper Wyatt Smith made 10 saves.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

La Cañada 9, Laguna Beach 9 (La Cañada wins 83-73 on games): Jessica MacCallum and Katelyn Smith each won twice in singles for the Breakers in Wednesday’s CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoff semifinal match at Laguna Beach High.

Ainsley and Kendyl Beresford won twice in doubles for Laguna Beach, as did Cree Gagne and Laea Chesley.

Laguna Beach, the Wave League champion, finished its season with a record of 12-5.
