High School Roundup: Newport Harbor boys’ basketball advances to Century Elks Classic final
Brandon Kincaid had a team-high 19 points for the Newport Harbor High School boys’ basketball team in a 75-28 win over Whittier California in the Century Elks Classic Tournament Wednesday at Century High in Santa Ana.
Riggs Guy scored 10 points for Newport Harbor (12-5).
The Sailors play Palm Desert in the tournament championship game Thursday at 6 p.m.
Corona del Mar 46, Buena Park 44: Dylan Rogers scored 10 points for the Sea Kings in Thursday’s game at Estancia High.
Sanjay Tewari added eight points for CdM (16-1), which hosts Los Alamitos on Wednesday.
Corona del Mar 53, Fullerton 33: George Bruening scored 15 points for the Sea Kings in their win Wednesday night at Estancia High.
Sanjay Tewari added 12 points for CdM.
The game was a last-minute addition for the Sea Kings, as their game at the North Torrance tournament was canceled.
CdM returns to Estancia on Thursday night for a game against Buena Park.
Edison 56, Capistrano Valley 49: Tyler Hampton earned tournament MVP honors as the Chargers won the Indio Tournament on Thursday night.
Dylan Hugues and Trey Wilborn were all-tournament team selections for Edison (15-3), which hosts Huntington Beach on Wednesday.
Edison 74, Moreno Valley 48: Kaz Hampton had a game-high 20 points, making six three-pointers along the way, for the Chargers Wednesday in the Palm Desert Tournament.
Tyler Hampton added 14 points, and Trey Wilborn scored 11 points for Edison, which has won nine games in a row.
Estancia 48, Jurupa Valley Rubidoux 40: The Eagles improved to 11-5 after winning Wednesday’s Coast Classic game at Estancia High.
Pacifica Christian Orange County 57, Carmichael Jesuit 54: Senior guard Riyaan Jiwani made five three-pointers and set the Tritons’ career record for most three-pointers in Thursday’s game at The Classic at Damien.
Jiwani now has 181 career three-pointers. He also scored 19 points in Thursday’s game.
Dylan Godfrey added 11 points for Pacifica Christian (7-8).
Fountain Valley 60, Pacifica Christian Orange County 49: Roderick Anderson scored 16 points to lead the Barons in the Classic at Damien on Wednesday.
Aden Casarez scored 13 points for Fountain Valley (4-6).
Alex Stewart led Pacifica Christian with a game-high 19 points.
Temecula Chaparral 52, Laguna Beach 46: Kai Gillies scored 14 points for the Breakers in the semifinals of the Tustin Holiday Classic Wednesday night at Tustin High.
Aidan Del Col added 11 points for Laguna Beach (9-6).
The Breakers will not play a third-place game, as San Clemente forfeited its semifinal game due to COVID-19 protocols and a replacement was not found.
Marina 85, Mission Viejo 52: The Vikings improved to 13-4 after winning Thursday’s game in the Tustin Holiday Classic.
Ocean View 56, Tustin 52: Chico Lopez scored 25 points to lead the Seahawks in Thursday’s Tustin Holiday Classic game.
Peyton Guerrero scored 12 points and Jeremiah Santiago chipped in 11 points for Ocean View.
Santiago was an all-tournament team selection for the Seahawks (9-6).
Sage Hill 70, Lake Elsinore Lakeside 49: The Lightning are 8-8 after Wednesday’s win at the Tri-City Christian Tournament.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Kennedy 40, Estancia 30: Mackenzie Sanchez scored 20 points for the Eagles, who lost to the Irish in the championship game of the Hawk Holiday Classic on Thursday at Ocean View High School.
Carolina Meza had eight points and six steals for Estancia (8-5).
Estancia 41, Loara 29: Mackenzie Sanchez had 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Eagles to a win on Wednesday in the Hawk Holiday Classic at Ocean View High School.
Alexis Orellana added nine points for Estancia.
Edison 55, Pasadena Maranatha 30: Mia Cassel scored 20 points to go with 14 rebounds, as the Chargers earned a win Thursday in the Christina Mauser Memorial Tournament at home.
Cynthia Dinh added 11 points and five steals for Edison (6-11).
Claremont defeated Portola 70-67 to claim the tournament’s inaugural title.
Cypress 70, Fountain Valley 67 (OT): Audrey Tengan had a team-high 22 points for the Barons Thursday in the Christina Mauser Memorial Tournament.
Margaret Tengan added 16 points for Fountain Valley (10-4), which was unable to make a 10-point lead stand up with three minutes remaining in regulation.
Mary Nguyen scored 11 points, and Sarah Henry also had nine points for the Barons. Audrey Tengan was named to the all-tournament team.
Los Amigos 35, Riverside Norte Vista 27: The Lobos picked up their first win of the season Wednesday, improving to 1-10 on the season.
Morelia Gallardo and America Martinez each scored 10 points for Los Amigos in the Savanna Tournament game.
Newport Harbor 61, San Bernardino 55: Chase Dionio had 18 points and six assists for the Sailors in Friday’s game of the Ayala Tournament.
Emma Coatsworth scored 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for Newport Harbor (12-5). Aissa Grum had 12 points and eight rebounds, Cydney Jover had 11 points and four assists, and Emma Fults chipped in with five points and 12 rebounds.
Kennedy 63, Ocean View 17: Michelle Ogasawara scored a season-high 30 points to go with 12 rebounds to lead the Irish past the Seahawks on Wednesday in the Hawk Holiday Classic.
Ocean View dropped to 10-5 overall.
El Dorado Hills Oak Ridge 56, Sage Hill 45: Isabel Gomez paced the Lightning with 13 points and two blocked shots Thursday in a game at the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic in San Diego.
Emily Eadie contributed 11 points and 11 rebounds for Sage Hill (12-5). Kat Righeimer, an all-tournament team selection, scored 11 points to go with six rebounds and two steals. Zoie Lamkin added six points and four rebounds.
Sage Hill 41, Sacramento McClatchy 30: Emily Eadie had 15 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Lightning on Wednesday in the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic in San Diego.
Kat Righeimer scored 10 points for Sage Hill (12-4). Zoie Lamkin, Isabel Gomez and Annabelle Spotts had five points apiece, and Kiana Hosseinzadeh added two points and five rebounds.
GIRLS’ WRESTLING
Marina’s Kaelani Shufeldt (101 pounds), Presley Anderson (116) and Alexandra Lopez (143) advanced to the semifinals of the Queen of the Mat Tournament in Corona on Wednesday.
The Vikings finished the day in second place in the team standings, trailing only Corona by a count of 117-82.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Corona del Mar 2, Mayfair 0: Jane Paulsen scored twice on headers off corner kicks from Erin Jones for the Sea Kings in Thursday’s nonleague match at CdM.
Goalkeeper Sydney Walls made four saves for CdM (11-0-0), which is ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division 2.
Paulsen had three goals and an assist in Wednesday’s 6-0 victory over Irvine.
Corona del Mar 6, Irvine 0: The Sea Kings kept their undefeated record intact with Wednesday’s nonleague win at home.
Newport Harbor 4, Long Beach Wilson 0: The Sailors finished the North Orange County Classic with a record of 5-7-3 overall.
Brielle Benedict scored twice for Newport Harbor, while Ally Thomas and Isabelle Whittaker each had one goal. Gigi Davila, Laine Briggs, Sadie Hoch and Anto Russo drew the assists for the Sailors. Emily Park made two saves for the shutout.
Newport Harbor also played Trabuco Hills on Wednesday, dropping the match by a score of 1-0.
