High School Roundup: CdM boys’ basketball grinds out win over rival Newport Harbor

Hudson Bond scored a team-high 12 points to lead the Corona del Mar High School boys’ basketball team to a 44-38 win at Newport Harbor in the Battle of the Bay game on Friday night.

Ilan Agranovich scored 10 points, including two three-pointers in the fourth quarter, for the Sea Kings. Corona del Mar outscored Newport Harbor 16-8 in the fourth quarter.

Dylan Rogers added six points, and George Bruening chipped in with five points for CdM.

Newport Harbor’s Riggs Guy led all scorers with 13 points. Isaac Davis added 11 points, and Brandon Kincaid also had six points for the Sailors.

Corona del Mar (20-8) and Newport Harbor (15-13) did not secure automatic playoff berths in their respective leagues and will have to apply for at-large berths into the CIF Southern Section playoffs.

The section will release its boys’ basketball pairings on Tuesday at noon.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Corona del Mar 37, Fountain Valley 35: Haley Esquino had a team-high 13 points for the host Sea Kings on Friday in a Surf League game.

Makena Tomlinson added 12 points for CdM (14-11, 4-2 in the Surf League), which also received six points from Julia Mork.

Corona del Mar coach Brason Alexander said that Tomlinson surpassed 1,000 career points as a Sea King earlier in the week.

Audrey Tengan scored a game-high 15 points for Fountain Valley (18-6, 5-1), while Margaret Tengan added eight points.

Fountain Valley was the champion of the Surf League. Corona del Mar finished in second place.

Orange 28, Estancia 24: Elisa Hernandez had five points and 14 rebounds for the visiting Eagles on Friday in an Orange Coast League game.

Mackenzie Sanchez added nine points for Estancia (12-12, 3-7).
