High School Roundup: Marina softball beats Saugus in Michelle Carew Classic

The Marina High School softball team defeated Saugus 4-2 on Friday in the Michelle Carew Classic at Peralta Canyon Park in Anaheim.

Makayla Mathis went three for four with two runs scored for Marina (9-8). Haylee Orozco and Zoe King each had a double to go with a run driven in, and Coral Piramo also knocked in a run.

Heather Nugent earned the win in the circle, allowing two hits and one earned run over four innings.

BASEBALL

Los Amigos 14, Bolsa Grande 4: Maysen Navarro had three hits to lead the Lobos offensively on Friday in a Garden Grove League game at home.

Juan Gutierrez drew the start and earned the win for Los Amigos (16-2, 7-2), which is one game ahead of Santiago for first place in league. The Lobos and Cavaliers face each other on Tuesday at Santiago and again on Friday at Los Amigos.

Calvary Chapel 3, Estancia 2: Cole Lefebvre went two for three with a run batted in, but it wasn’t enough for Estancia on Friday in an Orange Coast League game on the road.

Andrew Mits took the loss for Estancia (15-4, 3-4), allowing six hits without a walk and striking out seven in a complete game on the mound. He also tripled and drove in a run at the plate.

Jack Moyer also had a hit and a run scored.

Santa Ana 7, Costa Mesa 0: Matt Anderson went two for three for the Mustangs, who dropped to 9-8 overall and 3-5 in the Orange Coast League following Friday’s loss.

Laguna Beach 8, Newport Harbor 0: The visiting Breakers swept the season series with the Sailors with Friday’s win in a Wave League game at Newport Harbor High School.

Laguna Beach (9-8, 3-2) outscored Newport Harbor 15-0 in two meetings between the teams this week.

Newport Harbor dropped to 10-7 overall and 1-4 in league.

Pacifica Christian Orange County 6, Tarbut V’Torah 5 (eight innings): Center fielder Will Glidewell had two hits and three runs batted in to lead the Tritons to a win in extra innings on Thursday in an Academy League game.

Cash Espinoza fielded a pop fly up the right-field line and doubled off a runner at first base to end the game for Pacifica Christian (2-6, 2-5).

Tarbut V’Torah (6-3-1, 4-2) bounced back with a 10-0 win over Pacifica Christian on Friday.

BOYS’ GOLF

Capistrano Valley Christian 189, Pacifica Christian Orange County 206: Capistrano Valley Christian’s Luke Powell and Pacifica Christian’s Eston Kallins were co-medalists with two-over-par rounds of 34 in Thursday’s Academy League match at Ben Brown’s Golf Course in Laguna Beach.
