Joey Wright threw five shutout innings in relief as the Newport Harbor High School baseball team earned a 14-6 victory over rival Corona del Mar in a Wave League game Tuesday at home.

Jackson Gilles had a home run, three runs scored and three runs batted in for Newport Harbor (13-9, 2-4 in the Wave League). Trent Liolios, Austin Lueck and Tino Hernandez also smashed home runs for the winners, while AJ Guitron-Moore was two for three with three runs scored.

Charlie Mannon hit a grand slam for first-place CdM (15-8, 5-1). Dennis Fitzpatrick was three for four with an RBI.

CdM remains two games ahead of second-place Laguna Beach with three league games left. The Sea Kings can clinch at least a share of the league title when they play against the Sailors again Thursday at CdM.

Marina 3, Laguna Beach 2 (10 innings): Nick Bonn went two for five with a stolen base and a run scored, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Breakers past the Vikings in Tuesday’s extra-innings affair at Marina High School.

Bonn also threw seven innings, allowing three hits and two unearned runs in the start for Laguna Beach (11-10, 3-3). He had 12 strikeouts in the outing.

Griffin Naess and Tyler Montgomery each had a double and a run batted in for Laguna Beach.

Marina is now 6-16 overall and 2-4 in the Wave League.

Estancia 8, Costa Mesa 2: Trevor Scott pitched the complete game for the Eagles in Tuesday’s Orange Coast League game at Estancia High.

Scott allowed no earned runs and three hits. He struck out 11. At the plate, he went two for two with a double and two runs scored.

Jack Moyer and Cole Lefebvre also had a pair of hits for Estancia (18-4, 6-4). Costa Mesa fell to 10-10 overall and 3-7 in league.

The teams play again Wednesday at Costa Mesa in the rubber match of the Battle for the Bell series.

St. Margaret’s 11, Sage Hill 6: The Lightning dropped to 6-6-1 overall and 1-4 in the San Joaquin League with Tuesday’s defeat at home.

SOFTBALL

Huntington Beach 2, Los Alamitos 1: Sophia Knight and Jaylene Duarte each had one hit and a run batted in for the Oilers on Monday in a Surf League game on the road.

Carter Mello was two for three with a run scored, and Taylor Jackson also scored a run for Huntington Beach (14-6, 6-0), which can clinch at least a share of the league title with a win at Marina (10-12, 2-4) on Tuesday.

Zoe Prystajko struck out 14 batters in a complete game for the Oilers in the circle, the lone run she allowed coming on a solo home run by Allyssa Ramos.

Second-place Los Alamitos is 19-6 overall and 4-2 in league.

BOYS’ GOLF

Edison’s Timothy Jung paced the field by six strokes at 11 under par (205) for the tournament in the Champions Invitational on Tuesday at Indian Wells Golf Resort.

The Chargers, who totaled 892 over the two-day, three-round event, finished fourth overall as a team in the tournament, which was won by Concord De La Salle with a team total of 875.

Huntington Beach (915) and Corona del Mar (924) also competed.
