High School Roundup: CdM boys’ lacrosse edges Loyola in battle of ranked teams

John Dickson had a hat-trick and Ty Caffarelli had two goals for the Corona del Mar High School boys’ lacrosse team in its 8-7 win over Los Angeles Loyola on Wednesday in a nonleague match at home.

The Sea Kings rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the contest. CdM is the No. 4-ranked team in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 poll. Loyola is ranked fifth.

Corona del Mar (11-2) travels to take on Santa Barbara San Marcos on Saturday.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Newport Harbor 16, Capistrano Valley 4: The Sailors snapped a three-match losing streak on Wednesday with a nonleague win on the road.

Newport Harbor improved to 8-7 overall.

SOFTBALL

Costa Mesa 15, Santa Ana 2: The visiting Mustangs scored seven runs in the second inning to key an Orange Coast League victory on Wednesday.

Costa Mesa (10-6, 5-1) plays host to Orange (5-16, 2-2) on Wednesday.
