High School Roundup: CdM girls’ volleyball sweeps Laguna Hills

Reese Olson had nine kills and 13 assists to lead the Corona del Mar High girls’ volleyball team to a 25-20, 25-20, 25-22 win over host Laguna Hills on Tuesday in a nonleague match.

Paige Carillo also had nine kills for CdM (10-6), which finished tied for third in the Tesoro Tournament over the weekend. Reiley Murphy had seven kills and nine digs, Hailey Shaw had six kills, and Sabrina Baker had four kills and three total blocks.

Kirsten Dauderman finished with four service aces and nine digs, and Kaela Hiramoto distributed 20 assists to go with four aces.

Costa Mesa 3, Segerstrom 0: Hana Batlik had a team-high nine kills to lead the Mustangs to a 25-18, 25-23, 25-15 victory in a nonleague match on the road Tuesday.

Natasha Ruiz had eight kills and three aces for Costa Mesa (2-1), which plays host to Godinez on Thursday. Vanessa Castillo provided 10 digs.

Huntington Beach 3, Lakewood Saint Joseph 1: Haylee LaFontaine had 20 kills, as the Oilers defeated the Jesters 25-15, 20-25, 25-16, 25-22 in a nonleague match at home.

Kylie Leopard added 12 kills, Addison Williams had eight kills, and Olivia Foye chipped in with six kills for Huntington Beach (6-0).

Laguna Beach 3, JSerra 2: Eva Travis pounded out 38 kills to go with 2½ blocks, leading the visiting Breakers to a thrilling 11-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-19, 18-16 come-from-behind victory Tuesday in a nonleague match.

Kyra Zaengle added 11 kills, 17 digs and three aces for Laguna Beach (2-1), which plays at Dana Hills on Thursday. Brooklyn Yelland contributed 21 digs, Grace Christian handed out 37 assists and Katie Halvorson also had 2½ blocks.

Newport Harbor 3, Sage Hill 1: Laine Briggs had a team-leading 16 kills in the Sailors’ 22-25, 25-14, 25-12, 25-14 win over the Lightning Tuesday at Newport Harbor High.

Newport Harbor (3-0) plays at Yorba Linda on Friday.

Edison 3, El Toro 0: Summer Witherby paced the Chargers with 11 kills in their 25-23, 25-18, 25-21 nonleague win at El Toro on Tuesday.

Adia McCown chipped in with eight kills for Edison (5-9).

Estancia 3, Century 0: The Eagles remained unbeaten with a 25-22, 25-16, 25-20 win on the road Tuesday, improving to 4-0 on the season.

Oxford Academy 3, Ocean View 1: The visiting Seahawks fell to the Patriots 25-27, 25-20, 25-18, 25-20 on Tuesday in a nonleague match at Oxford Academy.

Ocean View dropped to 0-2 overall.

Cerritos Valley Christian 3, Pacifica Christian Orange County 0: The Defenders defeated the Tritons 25-8, 25-7, 25-18 on Tuesday in a nonleague match at Valley Christian.

Pacifica Christian (2-1) takes on Downey Calvary Chapel at home on Thursday.

GIRLS’ GOLF

Edison 197, Mater Dei 204: Chloe Lam carded a three-under-par 32 to earn medalist honors for the Chargers Tuesday in a nonleague match on the Mesa Linda course at Costa Mesa Country Club.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Fountain Valley 16, Westminster 7: The Barons earned a road victory in their season opener on Tuesday.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Fountain Valley 17, Esperanza 1: The Barons swept the first two rotations of match play in their season-opening match against the Aztecs at home on Tuesday.
