High School Roundup: Estancia girls’ volleyball stays unbeaten with win in Orange Coast League opener

The Estancia girls’ volleyball team came out on top in its Orange Coast League opener, edging Saddleback 25-22, 25-22, 20-25, 21-25, 15-7 on Tuesday afternoon at home.

Kayden Vazquez had 10 kills to lead Estancia (7-0), which had 37 service aces as a team. Neve Booze had a team-high 13 aces, and Makena Ray contributed 11 aces and 29 assists. Ava Fitzgerald also had seven aces.

Jenna Schroeder added seven kills for Estancia, which plays host to Santa Ana Valley on Thursday.

Santa Ana Calvary Chapel 3, Costa Mesa 1: The Mustangs fell to the Eagles 25-14, 22-25, 25-18, 25-19 in their Orange Coast League opener Tuesday on the road.

Costa Mesa (4-5) plays host to St. Margaret’s on Thursday.

Corona del Mar 3, Dana Hills 2: Reiley Murphy had 17 kills and three aces to pace the host Sea Kings in their 25-22, 25-11, 21-25, 24-26, 18-16 nonleague victory Tuesday over the Dolphins.

Sabrina Baker had nine kills and six blocks for CdM (13-6). Reese Olson added 12 kills, and Paige Carrillo chipped in with 10 kills.

Edison 3, Tesoro 0: Makenna Jackson had eight digs and seven aces, as the Chargers defeated the Titans 25-10, 25-20, 25-10 at home.

Summer Witherby also had 12 kills for Edison (7-9), which plays at Santa Margarita in the Trinity-Sunset League Showcase on Thursday.

Huntington Beach 3, El Toro 0: Haylee LaFontaine had a team-leading 21 kills for the host Oilers in a 25-11, 25-22, 25-17 sweep of the Chargers on Tuesday in nonleague play.

Taylor Ponchak added 12 kills, and Kylie Leopard chipped in with eight kills for Huntington Beach (7-0), which plays at Mater Dei in the Trinity-Sunset League Showcase on Thursday.

Laguna Beach 3, Foothill 0: Kyra Zaengle had 14 kills, 13 digs, four aces and two total blocks, as the visiting Breakers swept the Knights 25-15, 25-22, 25-19 on Tuesday in a nonleague match.

Eva Travis added 12 kills for Laguna Beach (4-2), and Grace Christian distributed 24 assists.

San Clemente 3, Newport Harbor 1: Anabel Kotzakov had 21 kills, but the Sailors fell to the Tritons 25-22, 26-24, 23-25, 25-23 on Tuesday in a nonleague match at San Clemente High.

Laine Briggs pounded out 18 kills, and Malia Thorne also had eight kills for Newport Harbor (4-1), which opposes Orange Lutheran in the Trinity-Sunset League Showcase at Santa Margarita on Thursday.

Fountain Valley 3, Los Amigos 0: The Barons rolled to a 25-6, 25-12, 25-6 sweep of the visiting Lobos on Tuesday in a nonleague match.

Fountain Valley improved to 7-4 overall, while Los Amigos dropped to 0-4 on the season.

Ocean View 3, Western 1: Natalia Christiansen had nine aces, as the Seahawks earned a 25-10, 25-19, 24-26, 25-19 win over the Pioneers on Tuesday in a nonleague match at home.

Jade Auger added nine kills for Ocean View (2-3).

Pacifica Christian Orange County 3, Santa Ana Valley 0: Rebecca Penjoyan had 10 kills to lead the Tritons to a 25-10, 25-14, 25-23 straight-sets victory on Tuesday in nonleague play on the road.

Ava Loritz had six kills for Pacifica Christian (4-1). Chara Wondercheck added three kills, four aces and 12 digs.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Corona del Mar 17, San Clemente 1: Sophia Andrei-Birca, Emilie Lew and Polina Briggs all swept in singles for the Sea Kings in Tuesday’s nonleague match at Corona del Mar High.

The doubles teams of Sasha Briggs and Sasha Fellner, as well as Shea Tomac and Lillia Edelat, also swept for CdM (2-0).

The Sea Kings play against University on Sept. 6.

Sage Hill 13, Edison 5: The host Lightning moved their record to 3-0 following Tuesday’s nonleague match against the Chargers.

Edison (1-1) plays at home versus Tesoro on Thursday.

Huntington Beach 11, Northwood 7: The Oilers emerged victorious in a season opener at home on Tuesday afternoon.

Mission Viejo 17, Costa Mesa 1: The visiting Mustangs fell to 0-2 overall with Tuesday’s nonleague defeat.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Foothill 8, Corona del Mar 6: The Sea Kings dropped a close game against the Knights in their season opener at home on Tuesday.

Fountain Valley 16, Garden Grove 1: The visiting Barons continued to score in bunches in Tuesday’s nonleague match.

Fountain Valley (4-0) has scored at least 14 goals in each of its contests.

Huntington Beach 12, San Clemente 6: The Oilers doubled up the Tritons in a nonleague match at Edison High on Tuesday.

Estancia 8, Westminster La Quinta 7: The host Eagles eked out a win in their season opener on Tuesday in a nonleague match.

GIRLS’ GOLF

Huntington Beach 203, Mater Dei 208: The Oilers fended off the Monarchs in a nonleague match Tuesday at the Huntington Club.

Senior Chloe Griffith, a Tennessee Tech commit, shot even-par 36 to earn co-medalist honors for Huntington Beach (3-0).

St. Margaret’s 213, Costa Mesa 303: Junior Gabby Elfrig carded a one-under-par 35 for the Tartans, who beat the Mustangs in their season opener on Tuesday in a nonleague match at San Juan Hills Golf Course.

Fountain Valley 201, Long Beach Millikan 236: The visiting Barons improved to 3-0 on the season in earning a win over the Rams in nonleague action on Tuesday at El Dorado Park Golf Course.
