McConnell part of USA polo league

Nolan McConnell of Laguna Beach is part of the USA National Teams rosters that opened play last weekend (Saturday and Sunday) at the USA Water Polo Men’s National League at Segerstrom High.

The three USA teams — Red (Coach Alex Rodriguez), White (Coach Jack Kocur), and Blue (Brett Ormsby), will be joined by four club teams — the New York Athletic Club, the Olympic Club, International Water Polo Club and Alumni Water Polo Club, in National League competition. McConnell is on the White Team roster.

In games played Saturday, USA White defeated USA Red, 10-8. McConnell assisted two goals and Bret Bonanni (Huntington Beach/Stanford) scored twice and had an assist for USA White. In its next game, USA White edged New York Athletic Club, 11-10.

In a Sunday, game, USA White lost to Olympic Club, 16-7.

The second week of the National League season will be played Feb. 7-8 in Northern California.
