LB2 rallies for win

A well-played battle between the two Laguna Beach National Junior Basketball boys’ Division 1 teams ended Saturday with the LB2 team coming back in the second half to score a 43-39 victory over LB1 team at Thurston Middle School.

In one of the better-played games of the 2013-14 season, LB1 got off to a fast start and led by eight points at the half. LB2 came on strong in the second half behind George Knapp’s three three-point shots to rally for the win.

Knapp led LB2 with 15 points while Noah Handel and Nicholas Lucas added 10 points each.

LB1 was led by Jack Houlahan who poured in 16 points.

Both Laguna teams return to NJB action Saturday.

Laguna Beach 41, Rancho Santa Margarita 19: Laguna started the new year on a winning note Saturday by taking care of visiting Rancho Santa Margarita at Thurston Middle School.

Laguna jumped out to a 12-0 lead and never looked back. The win was highlighted by a balanced scoring attack with Molly Cohn, Evie Laptin, Quinn Winter, Izzy Meekma and Sophia Lucas all scoring at least six points.

Division 3

Laguna Beach 36, Dana Capo 16: Haley Hahn scored a game-high 14 points as Laguna defeated Dana Capo Saturday.

Lucy Loughlin, Devyn Linder and Genoa Rossi each had six steals and Eva Gardner led the team on the boards with six rebounds.
