Briefs: Baseball camp coming
The Laguna Beach High baseball program will host a summer baseball session for returning high school players only starting July 7 at Skipper Carrillo Field on campus. The camp will run from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday and Wednesday each week through July 30.
On the heels of the high school summer camp comes a Youth Summer Baseball Camp offered by the Laguna Beach baseball program beginning July 8 at Skipper Carrillo Field. The camp is open to youth ages 5 to 14, plus incoming freshmen students and will run from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday each week through July 31.

Volleyball tourneys coming
Two upcoming girls’ beach volleyball tournaments will be held next month at Main Beach.
The Laguna Girls’ 16-Under Laguna Open Volleyball Tournament will be held July 10, and the Girls’ 14-U Laguna Open will run July 11.

USA Men place fifth
The USA Men’s Senior National Team placed fifth at the FINA World League Super Final after defeating Canada, 14-11, Saturday at Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Nolan McConnell of Laguna Beach (Long Beach St.) scored early in the second half, part of a 3-0 run by that broke a 6-6 and allowed Team USA to pull out to a 9-6 lead.
Team USA started the tournament July 16 with a 12-9 comeback victory against Canada, with McConnell scoring once in the win. The U.S. then dropped consecutive matches to Australia (8-4), Hungary (16-9) and Montenegro (10-4) but rebounded to defeat China, 15-5.
