Briefs: DeGroot reaches 1,000 digs for Kean

Junior defensive specialist Lisa DeGroot of Laguna Beach, a junior defensive specialist on the Kean University (Union, N.J.) women’s volleyball team, became the fourth player in Kean history to reach 1,000 digs during the Cougars’ recent matches against Swarthmore College and Springfield College.

DeGroot, who prepped at Capistrano Valley High, reached that milestone during the Cougars’ recent matches against Swarthmore College and Springfield College and went on to be named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Defensive Player of the Week.

Registration open for Surf City event

Registration is underway for the 19th annual Surf City USA Marathon & Half Marathon.

The annual event is Feb. 1 (Super Bowl Sunday) on Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach. The race draws more than 21,000 participants each year and serves as a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon.
