High School Roundup: Four CdM wrestlers win titles

Saddleback Invitational

SANTA ANA — Corona del Mar High’s Hunter Thomas (135-pound division), Jensen Rhinehart (160), Colin Krum (170) and Nick Delgado (189) were each crowned as champions in their respective weight classes Saturday at Saddleback High.

Andrew Minkus (112) placed third. Special recognition was given to Jensen Rhinehart as outstanding wrestler of the tournament due to pins in each of his four matches. As a team, CdM placed third. Delgado recorded two pins.

Newport Harbor also had a strong showing.

Jesus Sotelo (130) earned second place, while Alberto Ramirez (112), Jonathan Muñoz (119), Alex Maher (135), R.J. Roberts (171) and Abraham Aguilar (215) all earned third-place finishes.

Five Counties Tournament

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Newport Harbor High’s Ryan Cerrato (171-pound division) ended the weekend with a record of 4-2. He was one loss away from placing in the top eight, and finished in the top 12 Saturday at Fountain Valley High.

Bradley Beaudette (189) finished with a record of 2-2 and missed placing in the top eight by two matches. He finished in the top 16.

Costa Mesa 67, Environmental 6

COSTA MESA — Annie Sturm scored 19 points to lead the Mustangs in the nonleague game Saturday.

Molly Settles had 16 points and Marilyn Armstrong added 14 points for Costa Mesa (8-11).

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Newport Harbor 52, Rolling Hills Prep 49

NEWPORT BEACH — Carter Fortier had 15 points and Cody Caldwell added 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Sailors in the nonleague home game Saturday.

The Sailors are 8-10.
