College Roundup: Pirates edge Tigers

COSTA MESA — Sophomore Amanda Deal scored 23 points to lead the Pirates to a thrilling Orange Empire Conference overtime victory Wednesday night.
Sophomore Helena Robel, who scored 12 points, connected on a three-pointer with four seconds left in regulation for a 60-60 tie, sending the game into overtime. Sophomore Alyssa Hanson, who scored 11 points, had the assist on Robel’s big three-pointer.
Hanson connected on two free throws with 10 seconds left in the game to give the Pirates the winning margin. Riverside missed a last-second shot, as OCC (18-6, 5-1 in conference) held on for the win.
Deal was seven for 17 from the field. She hit three of her nine three-point attempts and six of her seven free-throw tries.
Riverside dropped to 13-10, 3-3.
The Pirates will play host to Santa Ana Friday at 7:30 p.m.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
Riverside 74, Orange Coast 59
COSTA MESA — Matt Sawdon scored 15 points to lead the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Wednesday night.
Jake Fedro and Chris Williams scored 11 points each, while Will Ligon had 10 points for OCC (5-16, 1-5 in conference).
Riverside is 13-10, 4-2.
Riverside outrebounded the Pirates, 49-49. The Tigers led, 36-26, at halftime.
