Briefs: Boxing tickets on sale

Fight Club OC’s debut event, Feb. 24, will feature pro bouts, as well as two MMA clashes.

Tickets go on sale today for the inaugural opening night of Fight Club OC, featuring boxing and mixed marshal arts bouts Feb. 24 at the Hangar in the Orange County Fair and Event Center in Costa Mesa.

The promotion, known the past 26 years as Irvine Marriott’s Battle in the Ballroom, will feature five pro boxing matches and two pro MMA contests.

Tickets are $50, $45 and $40 and go on sale at 9 a.m. at fightcluboc.com or by phone at (949) 760-3131.

The featured boxing bout is scheduled to pit junior welterweights Hector Serrano (13-1) and Aris Ambris (14-1) against one another. Ambris has eight knockouts and Serrano has five.

Brent Urban of Dallas (6-3 with four knockouts) and Joseph Jones from Los Angeles (4-3 with two knockouts) form a cruiserweight matchup on the card, which includes a heavyweight bout between former University of Miami running back Quadtrine Hill (3-1) and Chad Davis from Arizona.

The MMA bouts include Carlos Garces of Huntington Beach (5-4) against Isaac Gutierrez (4-3), as well as Irvine’s Luis Salgado (1-0) against Ozzie Alvarez from Miami (1-1).

The 1,500-seat venue features a 40-foot video screen.

Two of 10 luxury suites, that include complimentary food and beverages, VIP parking and entrance, and a separate Happy Hour restaurant next to the Hangar, are also available.

CdM’s Boehm lauded

Corona del Mar High senior kicker Andrew Boehm made the Cal-Hi Sports All-State Medium Schools Football First Team, making him the lone local Newport-Mesa player to receive the honor.

Boehm, who was the Pacific Coast League Kicker of the Year, converted 12 field-goal attempts, the most in the area. He made 40 extra-point kicks and recorded 40 touchbacks.

In the Sea Kings’ 16-10 upset of Huntington Beach in the second game of the season, Boehm made three field goals, two in the fourth quarter.

Boehm helped CdM (10-2-1, 4-0-1 in league) win its first outright league title in 22 years and reach the CIF Southern Section Southern Division semifinals.

Mesa fundraiser set

The Costa Mesa High baseball program is putting on two fundraisers for the upcoming season.

The Mustangs’ annual golf tournament will be Feb. 18 at 10 a.m. at the Costa Mesa Golf & Country Club.

The program’s annual alumni game is Feb. 19 at 10 a.m. at the school’s baseball diamond.
