COSTA MESA — Sophomore right fielder Stephen McMichael led five Pirates with multiple hits in the nonconference home game Friday.
McMichael went three for three with two runs batted in to help OCC improve to 7-0.
Bryan Garza had two hits and two RBIs, while fellow Pirates Zach Chavez, Kevin Cho and Chris Carlson had two hits and one RBI apiece.
Freshman Jed Vandernaald worked 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to get the win, his first.
OCC scored scored in five innings and did not commit an error.
Long Beach is 1-3.

Cal Poly Pomona 5, Vanguard 4
POMONA — Junior Matt Avery and senior Jacob Dominguez both hit their first home runs of the season for the visiting Lions in the nonconference game Friday.
Dominguez’s two-run blast with two outs in the ninth pulled Vanguard (4-4) within a run. But after a walk, a flyout ended the game.
Junior starting pitcher Tony Peraza, who came in having not allowed an earned run in 132/3 innings, gave up four earned runs and six hits in five innings to get the loss.
Avery, who was four for 25 coming in (.160), went two for four with two runs batted in to lead the Lions’ eight-hit attack.
Senior Mike Leal pitched 2 1/3 scoreless relief innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.
Cal Poly Pomona, an NCAA Division II school, is 5-0.
The two teams play a doubleheader today at Vanguard, beginning at 11 a.m.

UC Irvine def. Pacific
STOCKTON — Junior opposite Carson Clark had 19 kills and a .455 hitting percentage to lead the visitors in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match Friday.
Senior Cory Yoder had 12 kills and senior Jordan DuFault added 10, as they hit .346 and .364, respectively, to help No. 8-ranked UCI (6-7, 3-4 in conference) hit .352 as a team.
Senior Anthony Spittle had 42 assists for the winners.
No. 15-ranked UOP is 6-7, 2-5.
UCI visits No. 4-ranked Stanford tonight at 7.

CYPRESS — The visiting Pirates prevailed in the Orange Empire Conference game Friday night.
The win sets up a showdown with Fullerton for first place in the OEC. The Pirates (22-6, 9-1 in conference) play host to the Hornets on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

SAN DIEGO — Chris Kearney and Stephen Stege won in singles and doubles to pace the Anteaters in the nonconference road match Friday.
Sam Gould, Steven Henderson, Fabian Matthews and Shan Sandhu also won to complete a singles sweep for the Anteaters (4-4).
The Aztecs are 1-5.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — UC Irvine senior Laura Freschauf finished seventh in the pole vault on the first day of the two-day indoor meet Friday.
Freshauf cleared 11 feet, 5 3/4 inches.
UC Irvine senior Madeline Leduc was ninth in the long jump with a mark of 17-11.
