CdM eighth-graders capture crown again

The Corona del Mar eighth-grade boys’ basketball team completed back-to-back, undefeated seasons by claiming its second straight Coastal Athletic League championship.

CdM’s team showed strong ability on both offense and defense outscoring opponents by an average of 15 points per game.

The team was characterized by true team play with every player contributing to every win.

This year’s championship game was no exception. In a game that started quickly with a fast-paced offense and smothering defense the eighth-grade team dominated both ends of the floor on its way to a 52-23 victory over cross-bay rival Ensign.

The CdM team featured Ben Brooks, Ford Secrist, Nick Premer, Tommy Winkle, Matt Ctvrtlik, Garrett White, Karl Donovan, Sam Kobrine, Kevin McCarthy, Jordan Hauser, Brian Chelf, Roman Hays and Danill Cheadle.

Dave White and Dave Kobrine coached the CdM team.
