UCI third seed

The UC Irvine women’s basketball team wound up tied for third in the Big West Conference and, by virtue of tiebreakers, will be the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament that begins Tuesday.

UCI (13-16, 9-7 in conference) will play host to No. 6-seeded UC Santa Barbara (14-15, 8-8) in a quarterfinal at 7 p.m.

UCI swept the Gauchos in two conference meetings for the first time since the 1987-88 season.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

UC Irvine def. Stanford

PALO ALTO — Outside hitter Kevin Tillie recorded a career-high 22 kills to lead the No. 3-ranked Anteaters past the No. 2 Cardinal, 25-21, 17-25, 25-17, 25-15, in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation action at Maples Pavilion Saturday.

With the win UCI pulls into a tie with Stanford for second place in the MPSF standings at 10-3. The Anteaters are 14-3 overall, while the Cardinal is 13-4.

Opposite Carson Clark and middle blocker Dan McDonnell each had eight kills, with Clark recording a match-high 11 digs.

BASEBALL

Orange Coast 13, Saddleback 3

MISSION VIEJO — Bijan Rademacher went three for five with a walk, two runs and four runs batted in for the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Saturday.

Chris Carlson went three for five with two RBIs and two runs for OCC (14-1, 2-0 in conference).

Baylor 6, UC Irvine 1

WACO, Texas — Connor Spencer and D. J. Crumlich had two hits each for the Anteaters at the QTI Baylor Invitational Saturday at Baylor Ballpark.

UCI (5-5) will play against Lamar Sunday.

No. 25-ranked Baylor is 9-3.
