Crumlich honored as a Big West Player of the Week
Junior shortstop D.J. Crumlich was named a Big West Conference Player of the Week after batting .500 last week, when UC Irvine went 4-0.
Crumlich, who has reached safely in all 13 games for the Anteaters, singled in a run in UCI’s win over No. 19 Connecticut for the team’s first victory against a ranked team this season.
He then went four for five with a double and two runs batted in in the opener against Sacramento State.
Saturday he drew two walks and scored once as the Anteaters edged the Hornets to hand Mike Gillespie his 900th career win.
In the series finale, Crumlich capped the series with a two for three performance, including a two-run single that drove in the team’s eighth and nine runs in a 9-7 win.
Crumlich is currently hitting .412 and is second on the team with 21 hits. He is third with 15 RBIs and tops the team with 24 runs scored.
It is the first weekly award for Crumlich, who shares the honor with Cal State Northridge’s Drew Muren.

Raguse to Michigan
Corona del Mar High junior girls’ soccer player Sydney Raguse has verbally committed to the University of Michigan, Coach Bryan Middleton said.
Raguse was a valuable sweeper and midfielder fo the Sea Kings this season, helping them win the outright Pacific Coast League title and get to the CIF Southern Section Divison I quarterfinals. She was a first-team All-Pacific Coast League selection.

Davis stands out
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Senior second baseman Grant Davis, a Newport Beach resident, went three for four with a double and triple to help JSerra win the Frank Lerner division of the Newport Elks Tournament, 11-9, over Palm Desert on Friday night at JSerra.
JSerra was 5-0 in the tournament, also defeating Tesoro, Huntington Beach, Santiago Corona and Capo Valley. Davis batted .438 over the five games.
