HUNTINGTON BEACH — Newport Harbor advanced to Monday’s Gold Division final after winning three matches Saturday, including a semifinal victory over Back Bay rival Corona del Mar at Edison High.

The Sailors defeated the Sea Kings, 25-21, 25-19 behind 16 kills and five digs from Cody Caldwell. Rusty Sary had eight kills and four digs, Ian Sequeira dished up 24 assists and Max Richley had a team-high seven digs.

Newport Harbor (8-4) started its day by finishing pool play undefeated after defeating Mission Viejo, 25-16, 25-21. Caldwell had 11 kills, Sary had nine kills and Kevin Rakestraw added three. Sequeira had 28 assists.

The Sailors then defeated Huntington Beach, 25-22, 25-22, in a quarterfinal. Caldwell had 18 kills, three blocks and seven digs, while Rakestraw had eight kills. Sary had four kills and 10 digs, Richley had 11 digs and Sequeira added 30 assists and four digs.

Newport Harbor plays Santa Margarita in the championship match Monday night at 7 p.m. at Edison High. The Eagles, ranked No. 2 in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll, swept the Sailors in a nonleague match Tuesday.

BOYS’ TENNIS

National High-School All-American Invitational

NEWPORT BEACH — Shane Korber earned all-tournament team honors and helped Corona del Mar High finish seventh Saturday at The Tennis Club.

The Sea Kings lost to Peninsula, 4-4 (35-32 on games) in a fifth-place semifinal. But they came back to defeat Rancho Bernardo, 4-4 (38-37), in the seventh-place match.

Korber and Zach Williams won singles sets in the seventh-place match, and Korber teamed up with Ismaen Aboubakare to win at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 doubles team of Carson Williams and Alec Adamson also won at No. 2 doubles.

Second-seeded University won the title, defeating top-seeded Menlo, 7-1, in the final. It was a rematch of last year’s final, won by Menlo.

Korber went 4-0 in singles in the tournament and is now 21-0 in singles this season.

BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Triton Invitational

SAN CLEMENTE — Newport Harbor won the 4x1600-meter relay Saturday at San Clemente High.

The winning Sailors long-distance squad included seniors Alex Jolly and Austin Little and juniors Jake Barber and Jason Moreno.

BASEBALL

Sage Hill 22, Whitney 9

CERRITOS — Sage Hill senior Allen Brown went four for five with two triples, seven RBIs and three runs scored in Friday’s Academy League game at Whitney.

Brown was also the winning pitcher for the Lightning (3-4, 3-0 in league). Senior Jack Heffron and junior Michael Yorita were each three for five with a double and accounted for a combined five runs and five RBIs.

Sage Hill plays host to Windward on Tuesday.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

OC Invitational

IRVINE — Corona del Mar High finished seventh in the tournament at Beckman Saturday.

The Sea Kings beat El Toro, 13-12. CdM lost to Los Alamitos, 21-10, and Foothill, 17-7.

Molly Rovzar and freshman Kacie Kline led the Sea Kings to the win over the Chargers.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Corona del Mar 8, Santa Margarita 5

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA – John Prickett, Donald Dalton, Dylan Salisbury and Austin Jones provided strong defense for the Sea Kings in the nonleague game Saturday.

Michael Keasey and Jack Ortlieb had two goals each. Hunter Molnar, Michael Kasey, Jack Gorab and Connor Gaal also scored. Goalie Michael Ortlieb had 12 saves.
