College Roundup: Squillace medalist, OCC wins

TEMECULA — Michael Squillace earned medalist honors after shooting one-under-par 71, helping the Pirates win the Orange Empire Conference match at Temecula Creek Inn Golf Resort Wednesday.

OCC finished with a 367, while Palomar was second at 390 and Saddleback and Irvine Valley were tied at 395.

Tyler Paul finished with a 72 for OCC (7-2 in conference), followed by Josh Hurst (73), Jeff Fuzzard (73) and Matt Parkovich (78).

Point Loma Nazarene 1, Vanguard 0

SAN DIEGO — A second-inning double by Tyson Leighton was the lone hit for the visiting Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Wednesday.

Gabriel Garcia allowed one run on seven hits in eight innings to get the hard-luck loss for Vanguard (13-15, 9-9 in conference).

Garrett Levsen went seven innings and Chris Gonzales two to combine on the shoutout for the Sea Lions (14-13, 9-11).

Point Loma scored in the first inning on a double, a sacrifice and a groundout.
