High School Roundup: Dawson, Davis contribute in all-star win

Orange County North-South All-Star Game

IRVINE — Costa Mesa High’s Nick Dawson and Estancia’s Rashad Davis contributed to the South’s 79-75 victory at Concordia University Saturday night.

Dawson had five points, three assists and two rebounds.

Davis had seven points, three rebounds and three blocked shots.

Dawson and Davis played about 12 minutes each, Costa Mesa Coach Bryan Rice said.

Both players were Daily Pilot Dream Team and first-team All-Orange Coast League honorees.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Corona del Mar 7, Bellarmine Prep 4

SAN FRANCISCO — Senior goalie Michael Ortlieb recorded 19 saves to help the Sea Kings stay undefeated at 14-0 and win their final game of the Jerry Langkammer Invitational at St. Ignatius Prep Saturday.

Offensively the Sea Kings were led by junior Jack Ortlieb with three goals and senior Michael Keasey’s two goals and two assists. Seniors Aaron Khosh and Hunter Molnar also added goals, while junior Casey Mix had two assists and junior Brett Nelson had one assist. CdM went 3-0 in the prestigious invitational.

Defensively Keasey had six groundballs, senior Matt English had three, and senior Connor Cruse and freshman Hugh Crance each recorded two groundballs apiece.

The Sea Kings, ranked No. 5 in the state by laxpower.com are next in action against St. Margaret’s on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at CdM.

Newport Harbor 8, Thacher 4

NEWPORT BEACH — Riley Robinson had four goals and three assists for the Sailors in the nonleague game Saturday.

Ritter Hagadorn had two goals and one assist, Matt Porteous had two goals and Luke Toohey, Alex Opyd and Kole Eshcer had one assist each for Newport Harbor (7-6). Goalie Zac Vayda had 16 saves. Jack Murrel (five takeaways, three groundballs), Andrew Wilson (four takeaways, two groundballs, two knockdowns), Daniel Calvillo (four groundballs and three takeaways) and Riley Peterson (four groundballs, three takeaways, two knockdowns) also contributed for the Sailors.

Newport Harbor plays against Marina Monday at 7 p.m. at Westminster High.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Tournament of Champions

SANTA BARBARA — Newport Harbor finished fifth in the 16-team tournament after beating Royal, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 26-24, Saturday.

Max Richley earned all-tournament team honors for the Sailors (17-7), who went 3-1 in the tourney that Esperanza won.

Richley had 21 digs against Royal. Kevin Rakestraw had 12 kills, Peirce Ward had nine kills and Steven Duhoe had nine kills and 10 digs. Connor Leggett had 40 assists.

Newport Harbor beat Thousand Oaks in the fifth-place semifinal, 25-22, 23-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-11, Saturday morning. Clay Carr had 21 kills, Rakestraw had 19 kills, Richley had 21 digs, Griffin Leggett had 12 digs and Connor Leggett had 50 assists

The Sailors split a pair of matches Friday.

Newport Harbor opened the tournament with a 25-22, 25-20, 25-18 win over Long Beach Wilson.

Rakestraw led with 15 kills, Carr had 12 kills and Richley had 11 digs.

Santa Barbara beat the Sailors in the second round, 20-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-14. Rakestraw had 20 kills to lead Newport Harbor and Richley had 22 digs.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Corona del Mar 16, Sage Hill 2

CORONA DEL MAR — Alec Adamson’s 6-2 win over Robbe Simon highlighted the Sea Kings’ nonleague win Saturday.

The CdM doubles team of Andrew Nguyen and Paul Kacik dealt Alex Manolakas and Eric Magliarditi their first loss of the season, 7-5.

Sea Kings Tyler Gaede and Josh Kliger also beat Manolakas and Magliarditi, 6-4.

Simon beat Carson Williams, 7-6.

Manolakas and Magliarditi beat Alex Murray and Dan Anastos, 6-0.

Ocean View Invitational

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Jennifer Daley won the 400 meters in 61.02 seconds and the 200 in 27.51 for the Costa Mesa High girls Saturday.

Robert Blackwell won the 800 in 1:59.63 and was second in 1,600 in 4:34.32 for the Mesa boys.

Ashley Tupailesa was second in the shot put (32-7) and secodn in the discus (97-3).

Punua Fesili was third in the shot put (30-1) and third in the discus (95-7).
