College Roundup: Vanguard sweeps La Sierra

COSTA MESA — Host Vanguard won with mass production and with supreme efficiency to sweep both nonconference games against La Sierra on Wendesday.
The Lions (20-24) had 12 hits in a 9-8 win in Game 1, then managed a 3-1 triumph despite collecting only two hits.
Tyson Leighton went three for five with three runs batted in in the opener, including a home run and a triple.
Gabriel Garcia pitched six shoutout innings, allowing one hit, in the seven-inning finale to improve to 7-4.
Mike Leal and Robert Purpura posted saves for the Lions.
La Sierra is 12-20.

RIVERSIDE — Sophomore Matt Parkovich earned medalist honors after shooting two-under-par 70 in the Pirates’ Orange Empire Conference match at Victoria Club Wednesday.
Josh Hurst and Jeff Fuzzard each finished with 78s for OCC (12-2 in conference).
Mike Squillace had a 79 and Lyon Lazare an 80.
