IRVINE — Sophomore Chris Goul drove in two runs with a triple during a four-run first inning at Cypress Park on Friday, helping the Lightning pull off the upset and move into a second-place tie in the Academy League.
Sage Hill, ranked No. 6 in the CIF Southern Section Division 6 poll, shares second place with No. 9 St. Margaret’s in league at 7-4. The rivals play Tuesday and Friday at 3:15 p.m.
Conner Bock earned the win against Crean Lutheran, ranked No. 5. He allowed two earned runs in four innings.

Estancia 3, Godinez 2
SANTA ANA — Senior Tyler Rios tossed a complete game, striking out 11, giving up four hits and two earned runs in the Eagles’ Orange Coast League game on Friday.
Rios also had the go-ahead two-RBI single in the top of the seventh, lifting Estancia (14-7, 7-4 in league) to its fourth straight win.
Rios improved to 3-2.
Steven Macias went two for four with two stolen bases. Ben Beck and Levi Stillman had one hit each.
The Eagles travel to Saddleback on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.

CORONA DEL MAR — Tyler Duncan went one for three with a run batted in for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League game Friday.
Baron Schwarz was one for two with a double Brett Olson pitched a complete-game four-hitter for CdM (6-15, 2-9 in league).
The Sea Kings play host to Ocean View in a make-up game for the Newport Elks Tournament Saturday at 11 a.m.

Corona del Mar 17, Mater Dei 4
CORONA DEL MAR — Brett Nelson and Casey Mix recorded three goals and one assist apiece as the Sea Kings closed out the regular season on Friday.
The Sea Kings (15-2), ranked No. 4 in the state by LaxPower.com, are expected to receive one of the top seeds in the U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section South Division playoffs this weekend.
CdM’s defense of its U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section South Division title begins next week.
Max Kline, Chris Von Der Ahe and Sherwin Gersten each had two goals for the Sea Kings.
CdM’s Daniel McCabe had three groundballs and goalie Hoyt Crance made eight saves.

CORONA DEL MAR — Joey Martino had 12 kills to help lead the Pacific Coast League champions to a 25-14, 25-18, 25-13 win Friday.
Tommy Brooks had six kills and four blocks, Ryan Clayton had five kills and Brett Schisler added 24 assists and three aces for CdM (17-9, 9-0 in league), which wraps up PCL play at home against Irvine on Tuesday. The Sea Kings will play host to the Battle of the Bay against Newport Harbor Friday at approximately 6:30 p.m.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — The Sailors improved to 19-8, 7-2 in the Sunset League after their 25-20, 25-22, 25-18 victory Friday.
Newport Harbor plays host to Los Alamitos Tuesday for its senior night.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Senior outside hitter Kyle Jaffe produced 15 kills and 13 digs as the Lightning won the Academy League match, 17-25, 22-25, 25-17, 25-20, 15-11, on Friday.
Setter Kent Kawaguchi had 36 assists, 29 digs, 10 kills and three service aces.
Sage Hill (7-7, 7-2 in league) closes out league play at home against Whitney on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Sunset League preliminaries
HUNTINGTON BEACH — Newport Harbor High’s Hope Bender qualified second in the 400 meters (61.8 seconds) and third in the 200 (26.62) Friday at Huntington Beach High.
Bender is one five Sailors who qualified for Thursday’s finals back at Huntington Beach.
Lauren Loucks qualified third in the 800 in 2 minutes, 22.58 seconds.
Paige Fults was the fourth qualifier in the 100 (12.95) and Courtney Buck qualified eighth.
Erin Barth qualified fifth in the 1,600 in 5:18.32.
