Orange Coast League finals

LONG BEACH — Estancia High junior Jake Knapp won the individual championship after shooting par-72 at El Dorado Park Golf Course on Wednesday, giving him a two-day total of 136, 17 strokes better than the nearest golfer.

Knapp was the Eagles’ lone golfer qualifying for the CIF Southern Section individual championship at Skylinks Golf Course in Long Beach on May 16. The top five in league advanced to the tournament.

Estancia’s Jake Stone finished with an 87 on the second day after recording a 78 on the first day at Costa Mesa Golf and Country Club’s Los Lagos Course. He placed seventh, eight strokes behind the league’s No. 5 finisher.

Costa Mesa’s Nelson Negrillo had an 84 on the second day and finished with a 166, good for eighth place.

Sunset League finals

LAKEWOOD — Newport Harbor High senior Marcus Kiel and junior Carter Norris each shot four-over-par 76s and Zach Eddy finished with a 77 Wednesday, helping the trio advance to the second day at Lakewood Golf Club.

Kiel and Norris head into Thursday tied for fourth place and Eddy is in eighth. The second day’s tee time is at 1:30 p.m. on the same course. The top seven golfers in league advance to the CIF Southern Section individual tournament.

Newport Harbor’s Tyler Tashiro shot a 79, followed by Mason Moody (80) and Brad Tapfer (81).

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Estancia def. Costa Mesa

COSTA MESA — Senior middle blocker Jim Nelson recorded nine kills and three blocks, as the Eagles closed out the regular season with a 25-18, 25-13, 25-13 Orange Coast League road victory on Wednesday.

Anthony Pham had 15 digs for Estancia, which finished 2-10 in league play.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Pacific Coast League tournament

IRVINE — Corona del Mar High senior Shane Korber advanced to the singles semifinals after beating Kevin Pham of University, 6-0, 6-0, in a quarterfinal.

Three CdM doubles teams — Zach Williams and Carson Williams, Alex Murray and Carter Wheatley, as well as Ismaen Aboubakare and Alec Adamson — each lost to University teams in straight sets in the quarterfinals.

The other three singles semifinalists joining Korber are Gage Brymer and Stefan Menichella of University, as well as Patrick Lipscomb of Woodbridge. The tournament resumes Thursday at 3 p.m. at University High.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Corona del Mar 14, Trabuco Hills 10

LAGUNA HILLS — Gabby Smith finished with five goals to lead the Sea Kings in the opening round of the U.S. Lacrosse Orange County Southern Section Division I playoffs on Tuesday.

Ninth-seeded CdM (9-6) advances to the next round and plays at top-seeded Foothill (4-2) Thursday at 5:45 p.m.

Goalie Sarah Hostetler made 16 saves. Torrey Attyah had five assists and two goals.

BASEBALL

Fountain Valley 2, Newport Harbor 0

NEWPORT BEACH — Senior pitcher Max Gerard threw a complete game, only giving up two runs and five hits, while striking out three and walking none in the Sailors’ Sunset League game Wednesday.

Max Carpenter and Jordan Desguin each had a double for Newport Harbor (7-15-1, 0-11-1 in league).

The Sailors stranded nine runners on base.
