Briefs: Lions’ runners shine
Juniors Kimberley Kent and Megan Williams earned All-American honors to lead five Vanguard University competitors in the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships completed Saturday at Indiana Wesley University.
Kent finished fifth in the women’s marathon in 3 hours, 4 minutes, 30 seconds, while Williams was eighth in the women’s 1,500 meters in 4:37.17.
The top eight in each event are named All-American.
Sophomore Kapree Nelson was ninth in the women’s 400 in 56.25 seconds and senior Chelsea Van Cott was 11th in the women’s 3,000 steeplechase in 11:51.97.
Senior Matt Johnson was 30th in the men’s marathon in 2:52:13.

Vegas moving on
Orange Coast College sophomore setter Kehaulani Vegas will continue her women’s volleyball career at Kean University in New Jersey, said OCC Coach Chuck Cutenese.
Vegas, a co-captain last season, posted 91 assists in 13 games as a backup.
As a freshman in 2010, Vegas played in 11 games and picked up 76 assists and won the team’s coaches award.
