Locals earn All-American honors in lacrosse
Corona del Mar High senior midfielder Michael Keasey highlights one of six local boys earning All-American honors from the Orange County Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse after leading the Sea Kings to an undefeated season and the program’s first U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section South Division and Southern Section titles.
The Yale-bound Keasey is joined by two CdM teammates, senior goalie Michael Ortlieb, who is bound for Yale, and junior attacker Jack Ortlieb.
CdM senior midfielder Jack Gorab received Academic All-American laurels. Gorab, who has a 4.4 grade-point average, is going to play soccer at Brown University.
The five players helped CdM (24-0) finish ranked No. 4 in the state by laxpower.com.
Keasey, who produced 54 goals and 33 assists, was also named the Orange County Player of the Year and the Pacific Coast League MVP.
Michael Ortlieb made 179 saves.
Jack Ortlieb had 56 goals and 25 assists.
Both the Ortlieb brothers made first-team All-Orange County and first-team All-Pacific Coast League.
CdM’s G.W. Mix was named the Coach of the Year by the Orange County Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse and in Orange County.
Newport Harbor senior defender Andrew “Dewey” Wilson received All-American honors as well. He finished with 50 groundballs and 57 defensive stops.
Newport Harbor senior Jack Murrel was an Academic All-American. He has a 4.66 GPA.
Wilson and Murrel were part of Newport Harbor’s team that upset St. Margaret’s in the U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section South Division playoffs and reached the quarterfinals.
Wilson and Murrel also received first-team All-Sunset League honors.
