Softball All-League: Newport Harbor duo earn honors
Newport Harbor High junior Hattie Marshall has been named first-team All-Sunset League in softball.
Sailors teammate Lauren Gandi, also a junior, made the second team.
Marshall led Newport Harbor (11-17, 0-10 in league) in most offensive categories. She batted a team-best .422, and also had team highs in runs batted in (26), home runs (six), doubles (five) and triples (four).
Marshall, the Sailors’ primary pitcher, went 10-15 with a 3.52 earned-run average in the tough league. She struck out 72 and walked 51 in 155 innings pitched.
Gandi, a shortstop, batted .218 and was second on the team with 14 RBIs. She also had two home runs, two doubles and two triples.
League champion Los Alamitos and Edison took the top league awards. Megan Geer of Los Al was league MVP, and the Griffins’ Rob Weil earned Coach of the Year honors. Sammy Cordova of Edison was the league’s Most Valuable Pitcher, and Edison freshman Ali Wester was named Rookie of the Year.

Two on second team
Corona del Mar High seniors Lindsey Susolik and Delaney Owen each earned second-team All-Pacific Coast League honors for softball.
Susolik, a catcher bound for Kenyon College of Ohio, is on the second team for the second straight year. She led CdM with a .442 batting average and four home runs, both of which were second in the league. She was third on CdM with 10 runs batted in and also had an .846 slugging percentage, tops on the team and in the league.
Owen, who played third base and also pitched, was second on the team with a .421 average and tied for the team lead with 16 RBIs. She had a team-best eight doubles. In the circle she was 1-6 with a 5.49 earned-run average.
Corona del Mar finished 9-16, 0-10 in league. The nine wins was the Sea Kings’ most since 2007.

Trio on first team
Estancia High junior Rachelle Reynolds and sophomore Bryanna Vernon, as well as Costa Mesa junior Molly Settles, have each earned first-team All-Orange Coast League honors in softball.
It is the second straight first-team selection for Reynolds, a first baseman for Estancia (9-18, 4-6 in league). She led the team with a .452 batting average, three home runs and 32 runs batted in. Her five doubles tied her with Vernon for the team lead.
Vernon, a catcher, was second on the team with a .400 average, as well as tied for second with nine stolen bases. Estancia finished fourth in league.
Settles was the first baseman and leadoff hitter for Costa Mesa (2-21, 2-8 in league). Individual stats were not available.
Estancia sophomore third baseman Chloe Davis and sophomore pitcher Kelly Hinkle, as well as Costa Mesa junior pitcher Nicki Delgado, each made second-team all-league.
