TAMPA, Fla. — Enrique Cardenas had two assists for the No. 5-ranked Anteaters to open the University of South Florida Tournament Friday.

Christopher Santana scored in the 26th minute and Miguel Ibarra scored in the 27th minute for UCI (7-0). Goalie Andrew Fontein had four saves.

UC Irvine def. Utah State

IRVINE — Marisa Bubica, Shannon Fleming and Arielle Manz each posted career-highs in kills while Mary Carls dished out a personal-best with 51 assists in the Anteaters’ 23-25, 25-20, 25-10, 25-17 nonconference win Friday.

Bubica logged 13 kills while Fleming made it an even dozen to go along with eight blocks as UCI (5-4) logged a 10-8.5 block advantage against the Aggies (4-8). Manz, who also had a career-high 12 kills, committed just one error in 25 attempts to hit .440, another personal-best for the middle blocker. Aly Squires added a double-double match with 13 kills and 12 digs to the Anteater effort while Kristin Winkler topped all players with 27 digs in the win.

Orange Coast def. San Diego City

SAN DIEGO — Karlee Riggs had 22 kills to lead the Pirates to a 25-17, 25-13, 25-18 nonconference win Friday.

Allison Lumsden had 33 assists and Andi Frisina had 17 digs for OCC (4-0).

San Diego is 2-1.

The Pirates play at Pasadena Wednesday at 5 p.m.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Saint Mary’s 2, UC Irvine 1

IRVINE — Coco Goodson scored an unassisted goal for the Anteaters, but theGaels responded with two straight goals in the nonconference game Friday.

St. Mary’s (7-1-1) scored the game winner in the 66th minute. UCI fell to 5-2-1.

Vanguard 2, Holy Names 1

AHTERTON — Gabriela Valles scored her fifth goal of the season to help the Lions to the nonconference win Friday.

Jordan Cleary also scored for Vanguard (5-0). Kayla Sanchez had an assist.
